The Imbolic Sabbat, which is often referred to as Candlemas, is particularly associated with the dawn of the spring, the days are becoming longer again, and we can finally open up our homes to clear out any stagnant energy that collected as we encompassed ourselves in the warmth of our homes during the winter months. It is a time where we focus on banishing the winter season to enable us to look towards the spring harvest, seeing the first signs of spring unfold as the blades of grass and delicate flowers surface from the cold ground below and we hear the return of birdsong and see creatures begin to awaken from hibernation.
Imbolic is an uplifting time of new beginnings and it presents a perfect opportunity to cleanse our homes and ourselves of any stale and sluggish energy and it is often celebrated by means of decorating our homes for springtime, making corn husk dolls/poppets and crosses, building bonfires, lighting candles, decorating altars and cleansing & consecrating tools to name a few.
The making of corn dollies goes back many thousands of years. It was a custom which evolved from the beliefs of the corn growing people who believed in the Corn Spirit. Corn dollies were made at Harvest time from the last sheaf of corn cut and were believed to bring luck and fertility of the land, ensuring the success of the next year's crop.
Corn dollies are magical charms thought to protect the home, livestock, and personal wellness of the maker and their family, or those who held the corn dolly in their possession from it being gifted to them or made especially for them. The spirit of the harvest is embodied by this figure which can either be burned after writing a wish/request to the higher realm on to the doll or alternatively keeping it throughout the year as a beautiful symbol of health, good luck, general prosperity and the earth's fertility.

Sarena's Story
As a child, my spiritual connection was very strong indeed, somewhat daunting as a child, but as I grew into adulthood, fear of the unknown diminished as the realisation that a special and magical gift was bestowed upon me came to the forefront, I was indeed a chosen one to connect with the divine. Upon embracing these spiritual and divine connections, I decided to embrace this amazing gift and allow myself to be open to receive these spiritual connections and energies.
